Roll out the red carpet, and ready your popcorn. This month we are discussing some of our favourite websites using film released in the last few months.

 

Expedia – Great Britain

 
What do we like?
The simple interaction to switch between different locations and and scenarios to show you where perhaps you should take your next trip.

Why do we like it?
A simple idea that is carried out seamlessly. The efforts put into editing and filming this piece cannot go unnoticed.

What one thing could you learn and apply to your projects?
This piece was actually made using a sprite sheet of videos, all playing at the same time. This keeps everything perfectly synchronised and running smoothly.

Patagonia – Bears Ears

 
What do we like?
Captivating imagery and a clean UI. This website is also ready for VR.

Why do we like it?
There is a vast amount of information to be digested on this website, and they have combatted this by breaking it down into bite sized chunks.

What one thing could you learn and apply to your projects?
360 videos are captivating and still have a wow factor. YouTube’s 360 player is used for the relevant sections of the website and does a great job at it!

Veil Hymn

 
What do we like?
Shows a unique perspective and explores behind the camera.

Why do we like it?
The transition is seamless, and applies an effect that just looks great!

What one thing could you learn and apply to your projects?
The create JS library that is being used for the transitions is quite powerful, and can be introduced into projects for much more than tweening a couple of shapes.

Hidden Dangers

 
What do we like?
Nice SVG animation on the logo, and powerful interviews with the locals.

Why do we like it?
The cause that this project collects donations for is a great one, and the technology used is simple but so effective.

What one thing could you learn and apply to your projects?
A clear narrative and a worthy cause make great grounds for any storytelling website.

CTP Studio 360

 
What do we like?
Original style of navigation, using areas in the room as CTAs.

Why do we like it?
Nice insight into band rehearsals, and being able to interact with them.

What one thing could you learn and apply to your projects?
Applications such as the krpano to play 360 video and create hotspots within the 360 environment allow for a great interactive piece.
