Now in its 4th year, the BIMA Digital Day connects industry professionals with schools and students across the country. The days focus is to inspire the next generation of digital talent through engaging them in a series of creative real world challenges. We had the pleasure of being partnered with the Portslade Aldridge Community Academy, a highly successful, forward thinking Academy, with high expectations. Needless to say, we were very excited as to the possible outputs of the day!

What immediately struck us was the enthusiasm that the group had for the industry and more specifically the uninhibited ideas that immediately began to surface. It was very refreshing to see creative ideas being dreamt up that were not influenced and restricted by the usual barriers that we face in our industry … those of cost and time. They are generation edge, the digital generation, born into a world of apps, smartphones, social media and vlogging; so perhaps it was not surprising to see how easily they came up with ideas that integrated digital tech right from the offset.

Their were 3 challenges set by the 3 key sponsors; Tata Consulting, Standard Life and Cancer Research UK.

The day started with us as the agency partner talking about the opportunities available within the digital industry and what it’s like to work doing the thing you love each and every day. Following on from this the students got into their groups and got to work, selecting, brainstorming and refining their respective ideas. Logos got designed, marketing adverts produced, websites designed and built, all in the space of 6 hours!

2 groups opted to tackle the Cancer Research challenge, raising awareness around obesity and how it is liked to cancer. One group focused on the Standard Life challenge, aimed at getting young people interested in saving money. The final group opted for the TCS challenge and created an idea around helping disadvantaged people get back to work through digital.

With the ideas all winging their way across to the BIMA head quarters, the hope is that the ingenious ideas curated throughout the day will catch the judges eye and win their school one of the many prizes on offer.
