A Black Dolphin for Best Storytelling at Cannes.

Earlier this year we sharpened our agency position. We looked hard at everything we make, from drama series to creative campaigns to interactive narrative experiences, and found one thing underneath all of it. Storytelling. Our love of it, and the good it can do inside complex organisations.

Last night in Cannes, that focus was tested in public, and our hunch turned out to be right.

Dilemma won the coveted Black Dolphin for Best Storytelling at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards. It also won a second Black Dolphin for Best Cast in addition to Gold & Silver in Informational Films & Explanatory Videos and Internal Communications.

The team celebrating at Cannes

Dilemma is our drama series about ethics in the workplace. It follows three consultants at a global professional services firm as the pressures of their working and personal lives collide. No talking heads. No right answers. Just learning that does not look or feel like learning. 480,000 people have watched to see what the characters choose, and to ask what they'd choose themselves if faced with a similar dilemma.

These awards are for Season 2. Season 1 also won at Cannes last year and took Gold at Brandon Hall award for excellence in learning for compliance training; amongst many other accolades for impact.

Here's a teaser of Season 2.

Season 2 Trailer

None of it happens without a bold client. Replacing mandatory ethics training with a drama series takes nerve. It means accepting that change is not created with more of the same, then backing that belief with real budget and real trust. We can't name you, but you know who you are. Kudos.

Season 3 has just launched across the firm and is gaining traction fast.  Who knows we may well be back at Cannes next year too ... we hope so, especially with sunsets like these.
